My first thirty day project for ATP is to read The Silmarillion By J.R.R. Tolkein in only thirty days. It is essentialy a prequel to the Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit. More specifically it is a compendium of tales from the creation of the world to the Rings of Power. This book contains around 300 pages so that means I have to read about 10 pages per day.
So far I have read 128 pages. While you may think that this would be easy, only reading 10 pages per day, but this book is not easy to read. The font is tiny and takes up the entire page. The majority of the book is just describing random places and people that never come up later in the book (if you have read any of tolkein's books you know what I'm talking about). The index of names lasts for 40 pages (which i am not counting in the total of 300 pages). But overall I have found that is a very good book. Over the next couple of weeks I hope that I can catch up to my goal of 10 pages per day.
At the end of the 30 days all of the people taking part in this challenge will have to put together some sort of presentation for the rest of the class. I will probably create a PowerPoint presentation about this book and more specifically, comparing it to the other Tolkien books that I have read (the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit).
